A Networking Event on the theme of Accountability took place on Friday, 28 February 2014. As you know, the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform recently published a consultation paper on strengthening Civil Service accountability and performance. An Independent Panel comprising Kevin Rafter, DCU (Chairperson), Michael Howard, retired Secretary General, Department of Defence, and Dorothea Dowling, Chair, Injuries Board was established to manage the consultation process and develop recommendations for the Minister. In parallel with the ongoing public consultation process, the Panel is also engaging with key stakeholders across the political system and the Civil Service. Following the consultation process, the Panel will develop and finalise their recommendations to the Minister by end May 2014.
The purpose of the Networking Event, which was attended by all members of the Independent Panel, was to provide an opportunity for individual SPS members to inform the Panel of their views on accountability issues raised in the Consultation Paper.
The Event was held in the Atrium, Department of Justice, St Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2
