An SPS Event was held in relation to Talent Management – Action 10 of the Civil Service Renewal Plan.
The Renewal Plan proposes the introduction of a structured and transparent talent management programme to develop future leaders. The Civil Service Management Board have agreed on a proposed two strand approach which provides a framework for developing talent at all levels in the Civil Service. The first element focuses on leadership development and succession planning at senior levels with a programme specifically aimed at Deputy Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Director level (this will then be rolled out to Principal Officers). The second part of the Talent Management Framework will include all grades up to and including Assistant Principal level with a focus on identifying those with the potential to progress to the next level or take the next step in their career.
Work is now commencing on the development of the senior level talent management leadership development programme with the first step involving a consultation process with all relevant parties on the approach, structure and content of a Talent Management programme. The views and ideas of the SPS are critical in helping to shape the programme.
